Mission Statement

Troy Neighborhood Markets is conceived as tool to bring fresh food, quality goods and diverse services to hosting communities throughout Troy and surrounding municipalities. Troy Neighborhood Markets mission is to establish farmers markets, one at a time, in sponsoring neighborhoods for the following reasons.

We believe there is benefit in spending money and time within one's own environs rather than exporting value to the outside. We believe income spent within one's neighborhood energizes its economy and will gradually raise the living standard of the vicinity. Spending and selling locally attracts additional goods and services to the area, in turn creating jobs and income for the locality. We seek to establish an interdependence between members of a community by creating a local demand for a local supply.

We want to develop an event where a neighborhood can convene on a regular basis for the purpose of buying, talking with one another, sharing news and finding entertainment in a public forum. We want to create a marketplace which the hosting community will claim as its own and develop to meet its specific desires and needs. We want the Neighborhood Market to become a point of local pride and focus for the people it serves.

We want people to have good, fresh and nutritious food within a walkable distance from their homes. We want the small producer and merchant, the artist and the service provider to have an inexpensive outlet for what they sell. We will encourage the seller to pass on the savings of low overhead costs to their customers. We will participate in federal and state food assistance programs which supplement the food budgets of people with low incomes.
